This weekend TDG had the privilege of being a part of an incredible dance experience in Ottawa called Dancers Give Back. DGB Ottawa was created three years ago and is a weekend long event attracting over 250 dancers from local dance studios, university teams as well as guest artists. It is part of a bigger North American initiative that was started in 2008. The goal of Dancers Give Back is to encourage all dancers to come and perform side by side in a non-competitive environment toward one common goal of supporting a local charity that targets youth in the community. It really is a special event unlike anything else. It teaches youth that positivity that comes from working together toward a common goal and that no one is too young to make a difference. The proceeds from this years event were donated to the Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa.
The weekend consisted of workshop classes on Friday evening taught by guest artists from Ottawa and Toronto and then two performances a matinee and evening show on Saturday. TDG was a volunteer at the workshop classes and it was such a great evening for dancers to come and leave it all on the dance floor, learning and having fun with their peers. This year the workshops drew their highest attendance to date.
TDG also attended the evening performance and was left feeling so inspired by the sense of community these dancers installed through their beautiful dancing and the friendships that were made throughout the weekend. Dancers Give Back raised $45,000 this year which was $10,000 more than last year!! Great job Ottawa! Together we dance louder!
